How it is paid for

The guides on this website carry advertising. The app does not.

TheTruthSpy is a small team. The app is free because the website is not just a brochure for it: it is a library of guides for parents, written by named people, about phones, apps, screen time and online safety, and those guides carry ordinary display advertising. Enough parents read them for the ads to pay for the servers and the people, so the app does not have to.

Three rules follow from that. Ads never appear inside the parent panel or in the app on your child's phone. Nothing collected from a child's phone is ever used to target advertising, sold, or shared with an ad network; the privacy policy sets that out in detail. And a guide is never written to sell the app: several of ours conclude that the right tool for a particular family is Family Link, Apple's Screen Time, or nothing at all, and the editorial standards page explains how we keep that honest.

  • No data from a child's phone touches advertising. Ever.
  • No locked features, no “pro” tier. There used to be an earned tier of advanced tools; it was removed in 2026 along with the tools.

And for the kids

Children earn screen time by doing chores.

Set a chore, and finishing it adds minutes on top of the day's budget. “No, you can't have more time” becomes “yes, once your room is done.” It is the one thing in the app that works like a currency, and it belongs to the child, not to us.

The questions people ask when something is free.

What is the catch?
There is not a hidden one. The website's guides carry advertising and that pays for the app. If you never read a guide, you have still paid nothing and the app still works.
Is there a paid plan if I would rather just pay?
Not at the moment. There is no paid tier and nothing a payment would unlock. If that ever changes, it will be announced here and in your account first, and everything that is free today will stay free.
Did there used to be more?
Yes. Until 2026 a second build of the app, installed outside Google Play, added call and text logs, contacts and other tools, unlocked by completing small tasks. We withdrew the build and the tools and the task scheme with them. Accounts that had them keep nothing from that tier, because there is nothing left to keep; everything else in those accounts is unchanged.
Does the site show ads to my child?
No. Ads appear only on the guides on this website, which are written for adults. The parent panel and the app on your child's phone show no advertising of any kind.
Does my family's data pay for anything?
No. The data the app collects is used to run the features you set up and for nothing else. It is not sold, not shared with ad networks and not used to target the ads on this site. See the privacy policy.
Will it always be free?
That is the plan, and the funding model is built for it. We would rather be the app families keep for years because it is fair than one that springs a paywall the week you rely on it.
