TheTruthSpy exists to help parents and legal guardians look after their own children's phones, in the open. Because the whole product is built around transparency, this policy is written to be read, not just to survived. It explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and how you stay in control.
1. Who this covers
“We” and “TheTruthSpy” mean [email protected], the operator of the TheTruthSpy service and this website. “You” is the parent or guardian who creates a TheTruthSpy account. “The child” is the person whose Android phone you pair, with their knowledge. TheTruthSpy is not intended for monitoring adults without consent, or devices you do not own or oversee.
2. What we collect
Two kinds of data flow through TheTruthSpy.
Account data (about you)
- Your email address and a hashed password.
- Your family's and children's names as you enter them, the children's birthdays, and your chosen settings.
- Records of the optional promotional tasks you complete and the access days they credit. We do not take payment details, because TheTruthSpy has no paid plan.
- Support messages you send us, so we can reply.
Device data (from the paired phone)
- Location, screen-time and app-usage records, and web-visit and block logs.
- Notification counts and keyword matches, and — only if you switch them on — notification text, call and message logs, message contents, call recordings, requested photos and audio clips, flagged photos and the video index.
- Device status: battery, last-seen time, app version, and which permissions are granted.
The heavier categories — message contents, call recording, remote capture, media — are optional, off by default, gated by on-device permissions, and listed on the child's phone in the app's “What is shared” screen whenever they are on.
3. Why we collect it
We use this data only to run the service you set up. That means showing you your child's location and activity, applying the limits you choose, raising the alerts you set, running tasks and rewards, and keeping your account secure. We do not sell your data or your child's data, and we do not use device data to build advertising profiles.
4. Where it is stored and who can see it
Data is tied to your account and visible to you and any co-parent you invite. It is stored on our servers and with the sub-processors we rely on for hosting, email delivery and error monitoring, each bound by a data-processing agreement. Access inside our team is limited to what is needed to run and support the service, and is logged. We will disclose data to authorities only where the law requires it.
5. How long we keep it
- Activity data (location history, usage, web logs, notification counts) is kept on a rolling 90-day window so the panel can show recent history; older records are deleted automatically.
- Requested photos and audio clips expire 24 hours after they arrive. Device videos drop off after 30 days. Flagged photos are kept until you dismiss them or 90 days, whichever is sooner.
- Call recordings and message contents, where enabled, follow the same 90-day window.
- Account data is kept while your account exists. When you delete your account, or unpair a phone, the associated data is removed within 30 days, apart from minimal records we must keep to meet legal obligations.
6. The child's visibility and rights
TheTruthSpy is designed so the child can see the app, see what is shared, and ask for changes to their limits. Depending on where you live and the child's age, they may have their own data-protection rights, which you can exercise on their behalf using the contacts below. We encourage families to treat monitoring as something agreed, not imposed.
7. Your choices and rights
- Access and export: download the data on your account at any time from the account page.
- Deletion: delete your account to remove your family's records.
- Correction: edit names, children and settings whenever you like.
- Switch things off: disable any optional collection in your panel, or unpair a phone to stop it entirely.
- Complain: if you are in the EEA or UK you can also complain to your data-protection authority.

8. Security
Passwords are hashed, traffic is encrypted in transit, data is encrypted at rest, and each paired phone uses its own token rather than shared credentials. No system is perfect; we work to reduce risk and will tell you promptly if something material goes wrong with your data.
9. Cookies and this website
This website uses cookies and similar technologies. Some are necessary to make the site work and to remember your cookie choice. Others are optional and help us understand how the site is used in aggregate and, where enabled, to show advertising. You can control cookies through your browser settings, and where the law requires it we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies. The banner at the bottom of the page records your choice.
Analytics
We may use privacy-respecting analytics to see which pages are read and how people move through the site, in aggregate. This helps us write better guides; it is not used to identify you personally.
10. Advertising
The guides on this website may display advertising to support the free product, including ads served by Google through Google AdSense. Ads never appear inside the parent panel or the app on your child's phone. Where ads are shown on this site:
- Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, and of some third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu.
- In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, personalised ads are shown only with consent gathered through a certified consent tool. If you do not consent, you may see non-personalised ads instead.

11. Children and this website
This website is written for parents and guardians — adults — and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through this site. Monitoring data about a child inside the TheTruthSpy service is covered by the sections above and is controlled by the parent who set the account up.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the “last updated” date, and flag material changes in the panel or by email before they take effect.
